Euonymus Silverstone Hedging
Euonymus fortunei Silverstone (Japanese Spindle)
(We should make this clear at the outset that this interesting little shrub is not really a hedging plant, more ground cover and ornamental) A new variety with trailing stems and tiny little rounded leaves of just 1cm or so, when young they are almost completely white and as they mature become predominately green but still irregularly flecked and splashed with white. An unusual plant that is always changing during the growing season. As the temperature drops in Autumn this plant can take on hues of pink adding more interest to the garden.
Euonymus fortunei Silverstone is a great little plant for containers where the colourful foliage can be allowed to spill over and trail and due to its spreading habit it has great potential as a carpeting evergreen ground cover plant that will give all year interest, especially around larger shrubs or in a sunny bed or border.
Like all Euonymus varieties, Silverstone dislikes poorly drained soil but otherwise will thrive in all types of garden soil, easy to grow in sun or partial shade, and is also a good plant to grow in a seaside garden.
