Hydrangea aspera Hot Chocolate
An impressive new Hydrangea variety with luxurious felted foliage, warm chocolate brown colour when young contrasting well the the elegant lacecap flowers, violet blue in the centre and surrounded by a delicate whorl of soft pastel pink ray florets. The large pointed leaves leaves mature to deep green in Summer before taking on Autumn hues of amber and yellow and then falling late in the season. Growing to a maximum height of 2 metres, this would make a colourful addition to any garden whether you choose to grow it as a feature shrub or an informal hedge.
Hydrangea Hot Chocolate is easy to grow in sun or partial shade, they prefer a rich moisture retaining soil that doesnt dry out too much in Summer, thinnner and lighter soils would benefit from a good amount of organic matter being well mixed in the hole at planting time and these glorious shrubs enjoy a good mulch being applied during Spring to get the best from them, this is especially the case for younger plants. Prune the old flower heads off in spring, reducing the plants back to a strong bud and removing any weak or crossing stems. We recommend adding Rootgrow when planting all Hydrangeas to give them the best start.
