Hydrangea macrophylla Sabrina (Mophead Hydrangea)
This is an eye catching mophead Hydrangea on account of its satisfying colour combination, the white flowers have a bright rosy red picotee edging and this is a darker leaved variety with red flushed new growth, setting the flowers off perfectly. A compact and bushy habit of growth, this delightful Hydrangea will only grow to 120cm x 120cm when fully mature. A great choice in sun or shade, it will certainly cheer up darker corners, or take centre stage – you choose! Also great for a low informal flowering hedge. Hydrangea macrophylla Sabrina flowers from July onwards, they also make a good cut flower.
Hydrangea Sabrina is easy to grow in sun or partial shade, they prefer a rich moisture retaining soil that doesnt dry out too much in Summer, thinnner and lighter soils would benefit from a good amount of organic matter being well mixed in the hole at planting time and these glorious shrubs enjoy a good mulch being applied during Spring to get the best from them, this is especially the case for younger plants. Prune the old flower heads off in spring, reducing the plants back to a strong bud and removing any weak or crossing stems. We recommend adding Rootgrow when planting all Hydrangeas to give them the best start.
