Hydrangea aspera villosa Velvet and Lace
An exquisite late flowering Hydrangea, Hydrangea Velvet and Lace has luxurious soft and velvety foliage, this shrub comes alive from August onwards as the delicate and beautiful lacecap flowers appear, purple and blue in the centre with a sumptuous circle of pale lilac or pale pink ray florets. The flowers often last well into late Autumn, a great source of texture and colour that continues strong, long after most garden plants have finished for the year. Use Hydrangea Velvet and Lace for structure and height nearer the back of a shrub border, in an informal woodland garden or in large containers for a talking point in a patio or courtyard.
Hydrangea aspera villosa Velvet and Lace is easy to grow in sun or partial shade, they prefer a rich moisture retaining soil that doesnt dry out too much in Summer, thinnner and lighter soils would benefit from a good amount of organic matter being well mixed in the hole at planting time and these glorious shrubs enjoy a good mulch being applied during Spring to get the best from them, this is especially the case for younger plants. Prune the old flower heads off in spring, reducing the plants back to a strong bud and removing any weak or crossing stems. We recommend adding Rootgrow when planting all Hydrangeas to give them the best start.
