Fuchsia Magellanica Versicolor Hedging

Fuchsia magellanica Versicolor (Hardy Fuchsia)

A lovely variation on the ‘old fashioned’, small flowerd Hardy Fuchsia, Fuchsia magellanica Versicolor has the same delicate scarlet and dark purple flower combination produced continuously for months on end, but also the added bonus of a grey-green, pink and white leaf colour. This is an easy plant to grow with a great combination of colours keeping the gardeners interest all season, considered by many to be one of the finest foliage shrubs.

The Hardy Fuchsia magellanica Versicolour has all kinds of uses, add them to a shrub or mixed border where there foliage and flower colour will bring interest all season long, or plant them in a good sized container (our plants are already well established in 2 litre pots) for a prize specimen that will look great on a patio or terrace. Like all of our Hardy Fuchsia varieties this also makes a delightful flowering hedge of 100-150cm, simply plant 3-4 plants per metre and our strong bushy plants will soon develop to make a fantastic hedge feature or screen in your garden with flower and foliage interest from Spring until Autumn.

Fuchsia magellanica Versicolor grows well out in the garden in any good well drained soil, these are hardy shrubs but a cold winter and hard frosts may well kill of the top growth back to ground level, new growth will emerge from the base in Spring, probably even stronger than before. This is not something to be disheartened about, the most important thing is to get a strong and healthy root system established from which the new growths will emerge. As we can never predict what kind of Winter is in store each year, we recommend pruning Hardy Fuchsia magellanica Versicolor shrubs in the spring, even if the top does get killed off over Winter, it will still provide useful protection for the crown of the plant and is best left in situ until the longer, warmer days return. This Hardy Fuchsia is a great plant for seaside gardens.
