Pittosporum is an extremely sought after evergreen plant and with good reason. This versatile shrub can be used for hedging particularly in milder sites around the country or as individual shrubs dotted around the garden.
The pretty and decorative green and cream foliage of the variety Elizabeth contrasts well with the black stems while also taking on an attractive pink edging in the winter giving a variegated appearance, the brownish chocolate coloured flowers can be insignificant as blooms but produce a gorgeous honey scent in spring. The pretty colouring of the foliage of this useful shrub makes a perfect backdrop or partner to more brightly coloured plants in a bed or border. The foliage is a particular favourite with florists for their displays.
They grow best in well drained soil in a sunny or partially shaded site. An excellent choice for a coastal garden. They are a plant that attracts bees and are suitable for adding to a wildlife garden.
This easy to grow Pittosporum tenuifolium Elizabeth hedging grows to a height of 300cm and should be trimmed in spring or summer to ensure it keeps a pleasing shape.
If using the Pittosporum as a hedging plant, we recommend a planting distance of 3 or 4 per metre.
Our Pittosporum tenuifolium Elizabeth hedging is provided in pots making them suitable for planting 12 months of the year subject to availability.
