Further Information about Yellow Potentilla Hedge (Potentilla fruticosa 'Kobold')

Potentilla Fruticosa ‘Kobold’ hedging plants (Yellow Potentilla hedge), as with all Potentilla Fruticosa (shrubby varieties) is a superb deciduous dense bushy small to medium shrub. This very hardy plant is a cultivar of the family Rosaceae and will brighten up any part of a garden despite its size, producing an abundance of colour whilst flowering from Spring right through to Autumn.

Potentilla Fruticosa ‘Kobold’ has pretty bright butter yellow flowers that really catch the eye when the overlapping petals of the flower emerge above its slightly unusual grey green foliage. The colour of the foliage provides a lovely back drop and contrast to the vibrant yellow of its flowers enhancing the colour further. It makes a fantastic small informal ornamental flowering hedge providing interest and cheeriness when in flower (from Spring all the way through until Autumn!) and is eminently suitable for edging a pathway or a border.

Potentilla Fruticosa ‘Kobold’ is also extremely useful when used for ground cover with its dense growth of habit covering a multitude of sins! This versatile shrub can also be container grown brightening up any patio or door entrance or even just planted as a solitary plant in beds and borders creating a splash of eye-catching colour.

Being a tough and versatile hedging plant, Potentilla Fruticosa ‘Kobold’ are easy to grow and care for, tolerating most soils even poor! Growing in full sun or partial shade enables more choice of where to plant in the garden. An excellent choice for coastal planting or in areas where the weather can by unpleasant and extreme. Heavy pruning should not be required but regular light trimming after flowering. Removal of older stems keep the plant tidy and encourages more bushy growth. These shrubs can cope with some hard pruning if trimming has been neglected.

When planting to create a new Yellow Potentilla hedge we recommended using between 3 and 5 plants per metre, or for ground cover 4-6 plants per square metre.

Potentilla Fruticosa ‘Kobold’ is supplied as a top quality potted plant available for year round planting subject to stock. They will be delivered to you in containers for planting out at your leisure, just keep them watered until your ground is prepared and ready.

We recommend the use of Rootgrow Mycorrhizal Fungi and Bonemeal when planting to give your new hedge the very best start possible.

There is a comprehensive how to plant your hedge section on the website which should solve any questions you have on preparing and planting your plants. A hard copy of this will be included in your delivery of plants.
