Garden and Paddock mixed native hedging plants give interest for much of the year while encouraging a wide range of wildlife, our mix is made up from the following plants:

75% Blackthorn (Sloe) – Prunus Spinosa

25% from the following (with a minimum of 5 species)

Common Alder – Alnus Glutinosa

Quickthorn (Hawthorn, May) – Crataegus Monogyna
Blackthorn (Sloe) – Prunus Spinosa
Dog Rose – Rosa Canina
Common Dogwood – Cornus Sanguinea
Hazel – Corylus Avellana
Spindle – Euonymus Europaeus
Single Row
When planting a new native hedge, we recommend using 3 plants per metre for a single row hedge – setting each plant 13inches/33cm apart.
Double Row
For a thicker double row hedge, use 5 plants per metre – setting the plants 40cm apart in each row with 40cm between the 2 rows.
Extra Thick Double Row
For a really thick, extra dense hedge that may be achieved more quickly, use 7 plants per metre in a double row. Set each plant 11inches/28cm apart in each row with 40cm between the 2 rows.

Native hedge plants are supplied as top quality bare root plants available when dormant from November until April or as potted specimens which may be planted at any time of year.All our hedgerow mixes are sold in multiples of 50 plants.

Orders are being despatched within 3-5 working days, delivery is 1-2 days after we despatch.

Delivery is free for most orders above our free delivery thresholds, these are displayed above our prices in the product listings and summarized below. If you don’t need that many plants it’s not a problem, you can choose to pay our delivery charge and only order what you need.

Delivery is convenient – no signature is required so you don’t need to wait in, we will leave your parcel in the safe place that you nominate.

Delivery is fast – because we pick orders daily from our own growing beds your plants only travel the small hop to our packing shed before being sent to you, they are usually delivered within 5-7 working days.

Delivery is reliable – we have been selling and delivering Hedging Plants to our customers nationwide since 1992. We have a lot of experience in packing them safely and only use tried and tested delivery partners.

Exceptions to our delivery charges are Scottish Highland and Isle of Wight delivery areas where we need to charge a little extra to cover the cost of deliveries to these outlying areas. We don’t currently delivery to other offshore addresses including Northern Ireland and Southern Ireland.

Tall plants over 2.5 metres have to be delivered by our own specialised transport, our delivery area is limited to mainland England and Wales only.

Please note there is a minimum order value of £50 for orders containing smaller plants and £250 for orders containing heavier plants

Garden and Paddock mixed native hedging plants – One of our most popular hedgerow mixes, this is without doubt the most cost-effective way of establishing a new species rich native hedgerow and is perfect for all kinds of general native hedge planting. This hedge will have a great mix of flowers, fruits, berries, autumn colour, and will quickly grow into a prickly stock proof barrier that has exceptional wildlife value.

Our Garden and Paddock native hedgerow mixes are suitable for ultimate hedge heights from 120cm up to several metres. All native hedgerows are best trimmed from August onwards, ideally in winter. Native hedgerow mixes are suitable for all soil types in full sun and partial shade, they are well suited to windy and exposed planting sites, where these tough native plants will quickly establish and thrive.

Full details of the species included in our Garden and Paddock hedge may be found at the bottom of the page (we don’t label the individual species), simply plant them in a randomized mixture for a natural look that will quickly become a haven for wildlife. The prices shown for our Garden and Paddock mixed native hedging is per plant and we sell them in multiples of 50.
