Pleached Purple Beech Trees – The Purple Beech (Fagus sylvatica ‘Purpurea’) makes a gorgeous and very practical pleaching species – here is a tree with attractive summer foliage opening greenish-purple in late spring before quickly darkening to a richer and deeper colour and the newest growth always displaying a brighter wine-red colour during the season. As autumn passes the leaves turn back through hues of green and golden yellow to a nut brown colour and as with a Beech Hedge, many of the leaves are retained throughout the winter giving high level privacy, particularly as the pleached trees mature and if the trees are trimmed back to shape during the summer months (this improves leaf retention)

Beech trees need a well drained soil to thrive and are best in full sun, if your soil has a tendency to water-log in winter or is very heavy we would recommend that you consider Pleached Hornbeams as an alternative, this species is far more tolerant of wet conditions and can even be planted in partial shade (although the growth will not be as dense)

We offer fresh pleached Purple Beech Trees in a range of sizes, these trees are fixed to their bamboo frames prior to delivery using the best bushy-headed standard trees from our suppliers, they will develop a full bushy screen of foliage with in season or so. They are also substantially cheaper than mature pleached stock and much easier to handle, mature pleached stock often comes with a much larger root ball that usually requires machinery to move them into position on site.

Because of the size of our pleached Purple Beech trees (they are too tall for any courier delivery service!) all our Pleached Trees are delivered by our own transport, direct to you straight from our nursery. We usually use our own Land Rover and trailer and will always call you to arrange a mutually convenient day first. Delivery is still free for these beautiful trees but as they require a more bespoke approach to delivery and we do need a minimum order of £1500 (ex VAT) to cover our costs.
