Golden Privet (Ligustrum ovalifolium ‘Aureum’) is the most colourful type of Privet, with the rich golden yellow leaves with a central dark green marking. These are often retained during the winter months, particularly if the winter is mild.
Golden Privet is a semi evergreen hedging plant, on exposed sites and during very spells of weather some leaves can fall but the hedge will always re leaf fully quite early the next spring. The leaves of older Golden Privet plants and hedges can often be completely yellow, the size of the leaf often declines as the hedge gets older, especially on poorer soil. Our hedging plants are grown under ideal conditions at the nursery and being young vigorous stock, the leaves can be twice the size of those on older plants.
Golden Privet is a very popular hedging species especially for smaller gardens, it will grow in any soil (including poorer soil conditions and chalk) that is not very wet. It is suited to all aspects from full shade to full sun and is a good plant for windy and exposed sites including coastal areas.
A hedge of Golden Privet may be expected to grow around 30cm or more each year, and can be maintained with just a single trim at any time to keep the hedge tidy, twice a year for a really neat manicured look.
Bare root Golden Privet hedge plants are grown in the soil at the nursery and are available for delivery when they are dormant during the winter months from November until April. As there is no need for pots or compost and far less fertiliser and water are needed, they are a low-cost crop to produce, this makes bare root Privet the most economical option when planting a new hedge.
We have generous quantity discounts (the more you buy the cheaper they are) and delivery is free on orders over £50 (ex VAT).
