Choisya Goldfingers (Choisya X dewitteana Goldfingers) Mexican Orange Blossom.

A gem of a new plant, Choisya Goldfingers has colourful golden evergreen foliage with delicate narrow leaves that give colour and structure all year. In late Spring fragrant clusters of small white flowers appear, often with a second flush in August and September. Growth is naturally compact and bushy and this elegant shrub will gradually attain an ultimate height of around 120cm.

This is a great plant for beds and borders and could easily grace a generous sized container on your patio or terrace for a few years before eventually being transplanted into the garden as it grows. They also make great informal flowering hedges or screens by planting 3 plants per metre, although this shrub will naturally grow to 120cm wide this can easily be restricted to half with a little formative side trimming as the plants develop.

Choisya Goldfingers is an easy shrub to grow, choose a site in full sun or partial shade and plant into a moist well drained soil (easily achieved in most gardens with the generous addition of organic matter, well incorporated at planting time). Like all Choisya, this is an excellent plant for coastal gardens.

How to grow Choisya Goldfingers

Position: Grows in full sun, partial shade.
Foliage: Evergreen, leaves are retained all year.
Soil and site: Any reasonable soil.
Flowering time: April-May and often again in August-September.
Growth rate: moderate
Ultimate height and spread: 120cm high x 120cm wide
Hardiness: Fully hardy.
Aftercare: Water regularly after planting and for the first season, trim after flowering in late Spring/early Summer to keep the shrub tidy and encourage a second flush of flowers later in the season.
