Euonymus Japonicus Francien Hedging
Euonymus japonicus Francien (Japanese Spindle)
The young shoots of this new dwarf variety of Euonymus japonicus are completely creamy white, contrasting strongly with the deep glossy green of the mature evergreen foliage making for a very eye catching combination. A compact variety with a naturally dense and bushy habit of growth, a low maintenance shrub that looks good all year.
This is a great plant to use for a year round container display and they are good, unfussy space fillers for borders and mixed beds. This is also a fun hedging plant with its two tone foliage display, it will certainly have your neighbours looking twice when the new growth emerges! With a naturally bushy and upright habut the young shrubs can easily be trimmed into a small decorative hedge of 50-80cm or more in height by setting the plants at 3-5 per metre. Euonymus hedges are best trimmed in Spring, solitary shrubs seldom need trimming except to shorten the odd wayward stem, again Spring is the best time for this.
Suitable for full sun and partial or moderate shade. Euonymus Francien grows in any kind of well drained garden soil, like all new shrubs good soil preparation pays dividends and you might like to consider adding Rootgrow to the planting holes to give them the best start. This is also a great plant to grow in a seaside garden.
