Laurel (Prunus laurocerasus) is one of the most popular forms of hedging. We stock a variety of laurel throughout the year including; Prunus Laurocerasus Caucasica, Laurel Prunus Laurocerasus Rotundifolia, Prunus Laurocerasus Otto Luyken, Aucuba Japonica Variegata, and Prunus Lusitanica.
Laurel can be found throughout the UK and boasts a number of uses. It can be used in large quantities for securing your boundaries in your back garden, to being a manicured masterpiece in a landscaped stately home.
It grows quickly, with beautiful evergreen leaves, and can be pruned to any height you require. If it grows too big it can be cut right back down to the stump if so wished and will then regrow. Luckily this hedge can grow in most soils, although it doesn’t particularly like wet soils, and can thrive in direct sunlight or in shade.
The hedging plant itself can remain small when maintained or grow up to seven meters. It is a great hedge for privacy, providing shelter to wildlife, and it can help to reduce air pollution and cut down on noise around your property. If you choose to leave it untrimmed then the hedge will produce fragrant white flowers, that are followed by red fruits. It’s best to prune back this hedge once a year to keep at the height you so desire. If you want to give it a helping hand each year to grow then laurel hedges love to have manure placed under them during the springtime.
