We stock three varieties of Buckthorn. The Buckthorn Alder (Rhamnus frangula), a variety that thrives on wet soil and is very attractive to wildlife with it red fruits that are rich in nutrients maturing to black in Autumn. The Common Buckthorn (Rhamnus Cathartica) a variety with a dense thicket forming habit also producing large quantities of rich fruit. The Sea Buckthorn (Hippophae Rhamnoides) a variety which thrives in coastal areas with prickly silvery foilage and orange berries.
Buckthorn Alder thrives on wet sites. The green glossy ovate leaves of this deciduous native shrub or small tree turn yellow in autumn. Bright red berries ripen to black.
Dark green dense thicket forming habit of Commom Buckthorn produces green flowers in spring with rich red fruits maturing to shiny black. A large deciduous native shrub.
Silvery green prickly foliage of Sea Buckthorn, a plant that thrives in coastal conditions, has tiny yellow flowers in spring followed by bright orange berries.
